Twenty-one boats made it to the starting line for the first race of the Summer series in the Oswego Yacht Club Wednesday Night Race Series. The fleets have changed since last week. There was one new boat starting for the first time this year, a J/24 "Dragonfly" and "Shockwave" moved back in to the J/24 fleet from the Non Spinnaker fleet and "Sail A' Vie" moved up to Division 1.
The fleet started the race with west winds of eight to twelve knots. The crew of "Hiawatha" setup a 1.25 mile windward - leeward course that was sailed twice. Tom Doran sailing "Oz' took first place overall on corrected time by staying close to the lead boats. Chuck Dolinskas sailing his J/30 "Cariad" sailed a great race and finished second overall and first in Division 1.
Third overall and second in the J/24 fleet was John and Wendy Heretyk on "Shockwave". Third in the J/24 fleet was Jin Enwright sailing "Rake Hell". In Division 1 behind "Cariad" were "Blaze" skippered by Brendan Benson, in third was George Nesbitt sailing "Luna Nova" while Dave Rahm sailing "Dream On" took line honors but came away in fourth on corrected time. In the Division 2 spinnaker fleet "Splash" sailed by Ron Smith was first with Dick White sailing "Lil Chickade" and Joe Mc Closkey third on "Petunia". In the Non Spinnaker fleet "Neige D'ete" sailed by Dick Taylor was uncontested but were able to finish thirteenth overall. |
