From The Commodore’s Deck:
2017 was a fabulous year at OYC. We had great social events, friendship, volunteerism and camaraderie. We as a club impressed guests from across the U.S. and Canada and showed why we are a great club. Not only did we host our three annual regattas; Oswego County Hospice, SAIL Oswego and J/24 regatta we also hosted the Hospice Regatta Alliance Championship and saved the annual Eastern Yachting Circuit international regatta from being canceled. OYC was only able to successfully host these regattas because of the dedication, willingness and commitment from all of you, the members of OYC, who volunteered to help at these events. You make OYC exceptional, Thank You !
2018 will be another exciting, ambitious and challenging year at OYC. Remember, OYC is for you, the members, and it is what you make it. OYC is not just sailing and summer events, we are open all year long and have many fun events throughout the winter that I hope you can attend and participate in. Check the OYC Calendar on the OYC website often for specific events and details. Anytime there is an SU game you can plan on fellow members hanging out and rooting on the ‘CUSE.
Upcoming Special January Events scheduled are the Annual Chili cook-off on Jan 13th, Trivia night on January 19th and the OYC Midwinter Meeting at 3PM on Jan 28th I urge all members to attend and vote on changes to the OYC constitution and the 2018 budget
Every Monday is dart night; beginners, pro’s and spectators are all welcome. Every second Tuesday of the month is the OYC Executive Meeting, all members are welcome to attend and see how the club is managed. Wednesday nights are Open Mike night. Come join Brian, Bill, Greg, sometimes Mark and other OYC Musicians in a sing along type evening. It’s a great night to hang out and meet other club members.
Most Friday’s and Saturday’s are open for members to host a themed night. For example, Laurie and Noel Barnett host a monthly Friday Night Trivia Night, there has been a Wild Game night, Soup nights, etc.
Mark your calendars for the Annual Spring Events, St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Party Saturday March 17th and the Burning of the Socks Event on Saturday March 24th.
Planning has started for the 2018 regatta season. In addition to our three annual events we will also be hosting for the first time, the Thistle – Niagara Frontier District Championship in June and again the Hospice Regatta Alliance Championship in August. I and your fellow members will again need your help at these events to show who OYC is.
I look forward to an exciting 2018 at OYC and to seeing you often. If you have any comments or questions about anything at the club do not hesitate to contact me.
I wish you all a Healthy, Happy and prosperous New Year!
Dan Mather, Commodore
