At the November 7, 2009 Annual General Meeting of the Lake Yacht Racing Association, the Oswego Yacht Club was selected as the host club for the 2012 LYRA Regatta. Oswego last hosted the Regatta in 1928. Representing OYC at the AGM at the Buffalo Yacht Club, were Chuck Dolinskas, Bob Porter, and Dave Lochner. After a brief presentation the regatta was awarded by a unanimous vote. John Gary will serve as the chair of the regatta's organizing committee.

LYRA was formed in the early 1880s by the eight yacht clubs on Lake Ontario. OYC's first Commodore, John T. Mott served as the Association's first, First Vice-President.
